I bought a LDV G10 on Wednesday 22/07/2015
I've had my LDV G10 for a week now putting 250 km on the clock
Seating is very comfortable and
supportive although there isn't lumbar support offered but the seat is still pretty good, A drivers foot
rest would have been nice also.
Canvas seat covers are from Supercheap Auto.
A commercial vehicle with luxury
vehicle features I find customization or adjustments are not to be had as an
example the central locking doors lock at approximately 10KPH an hour to unlock
you will remove the key from the ignition then the doors unlock or use the small
button on the driver's side door and unlock manually, unlike VW Transporters
you simply pull on a handle twice to unlock the doors, VW also have the option to switch
the auto locking off.
The electronics are quite impressive
with the stereo and their use of features within it and the dash cluster again
adjustability lacks a little there also.
So far I have found the tyre pressure
indication system is not accurate, I have tried three times on cold tyres using
different air pumps but there is a difference on the dash display by as much as
12KPA on the front right tyre and up to 9KPA on the back left tyre which really
isn't much just needs some fine tuning.
I like the floor carpet in the cabin
area although not all that practical in my field of work so I just bought some black rubber back
marine looking carpet from Bunning's and cut myself some floor mats, they work
perfectly and look great.
The lack storage compartments up front
is a little disappointing it would have been nice if it was the second glove box like Toyota Tarago or perhaps a centre console with a lid to keep things out of
the way and out of sight, The front doors have generous pockets and the drinks
holder is pretty good also, There is two separate glasses storage compartments
which I find a bit useless.
I was a little skeptical when I first
saw the LDV Chinese branded and made vehicle though it seems like it is quite a
solid vehicle no rattling or weird noises when underway, all the doors feel
good and solid when they open and close, driving along feels comfortable, solid
and firm, it drives quite nicely.
Lack of attention to detail has left a
section around the inside of the left slide sliding door not painted properly
being left in the grey undercoat and white body sealant being highly visible, I
have also noticed two small spots of surface rust on the inside of the fuel
lid.
Reverse camera, air-conditioning
cruise control, ETC ETC all work fantastically, no complaints.
The indicators on the left-hand side
of the steering wheel take a little getting used to but no big issue.
The stereo system only has two door
mounted speakers that sound really good for a commercial vehicle.
I don't know a lot about the running
gear in the vehicle but I'm led to believe the engine is possibly made by MG,
the turbocharger is labelled Hollywell with a little Google research I believe
they are part of Garrett Turbos, The dealership said the 6 speed automatic is
made by Hyundai and most of the electrics are all the electrics are Bosch but unconfirmed,
the differential is branded by DANA which make the majority of the transmission
& drivelines for most of the car manufacturers worldwide.
Hankook tyres are fitted they feel pretty
good in wet and dry conditions, road noise is minimal.
Two keys were handed over on delivery
with the vehicle unfortunately only one is a flip remote the other is just a
key I am not even sure is it has a transponder in it.
Acceleration of the van is really
quite good and smooth with the 2.0L turbo petrol engine and the six speed auto
when empty, I have most of tools in it collectively around 280kg still drives
great.
The paint work seems to be nicely finished,
doors, bonnet etc seem to line up with even gaps.
I like the storage compartment under
the driver's seat accessed from the side when the door is opened it houses the Jack
equipment and emergency triangle the passenger side has the same compartment
which I will use to store puncture plugs ETC and a small 12v compressor.
There are four single globe interior
lights in the back of the van and one double globe in the front roof mounted,
the light produced is dull I have replaced them all with same size blue
coloured globes from Supercheap Auto's which produce much nicer white light now,
the rear lights come on when a door/ doors are open unfortunately there is no
switch to disable them if you need to however they do turn off automatically after
about 15 minutes of no door activity.
In conclusion overall considering
there are a few questionable items I love my LDV G10 I wouldn't have any other
van especially for $29990 drive away, Value for money with the features you
can't go wrong, For me the positives outweigh the negatives tenfold with consumer voice refinements to the G10
could become well polished in no time.
I am extremely happy with my G10, I have
written this to help anyone considering a G10 as I found no personal reviews
when I was looking to buy one so I hope it helps, if you have any questions or would like to
leave comments or share your thoughts and opinions please feel free.
Happy G10ing!
Justin
Thanx Justin. It is quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteHi just wondering how your G10 is going thinking of getting one

Thanks Justin, just ordered a manual one this morning, so I'll be eyeballing the things you've highlighted here before I drive it off the lot. P.S. for other yet-to-be owners, shop around - one dealer said 'no discounts' and the next one dropped over a grand straight off. Brett
ReplyDeleteHi Justin, great review thanks. Bought the 2.0 L Turbo. Fantastic van. After a lot of research and test drives of most brands, I chose the LDV. I preferred the power, styling, handling, comfort and features.Price is great too , fantastic value. I bought on what I liked first and then price, so that was just a bonus. Hope you still love yours. Cheers. Neil

ReplyDeleteRUST WARNING !!!
ReplyDeleteNow in October 2019 I still have my G10 with 42,000 k's on the clock the van is running great with no mechanical/ electrical problems however there is rust lots of it, I will upload pics soon.
My son is in the market for a dual cab 4wd drive so we went to the LDV dealer at Southport now knowing where my G10 has rust I checked the T60 for similar areas and yes there is rust already forming in fact I would say the vehicles start rusting the day they are built.
I am no expert but from my knowledge most if not all descent vehicles go through a galvanising process before being painted... seems NOT LDV'S there is bare metal everywhere in the vehicles.
I then checked two other brand new G10's and one other T60 and you guessed it there is rust.
About six months after I bought my G10 I noticed rust, firstly what looked metal shaving under the paint which rusted to the surface, I contacted the Southport LDV dealer which went nowhere even after several attempts, I then contacted LDV Australia after a battle they agree to have the van inspected by a crash repair company, I had to drop my van off for the day at MAXBUTTS.
Finally after more chasing I was told warranty repair has been approved to replaced the badly faded door handles and fix the rust issues which all seemed fine except I feel that most of the rust forming between panels was just covered in a wax like substance.
Needless to say the rust has re-appeared in the "repaired" area's and now in new area's.
Just to clarify I don't live on or near the beach nor does my van go on the beach or even to boat ramp... LDV AUST told me the rust is a result of living near the beach... how ridiculous!
Theses vehicles are well packed with features, bells & whistle however now I no they come from the factory with rust I will not buy another LDV.
Haha you will get that with any car make. Your car definitely does rust near the beach. Inspect any of your neighbours cars underneath and you will see the same.
ReplyDeleteI don't consider myself living close to the beach, my 2007 & 2011 Holdens don't have any rust issue nor did my 2010 Ford or my sons Toyota.
ReplyDeleteI have three cars all kept at same location no rust, it's just a fact that the big car manufacturers galvanise or do some similar treatment to the raw bodies before painting.
My van had rusted appearing or at least I noticed it within a couple of months we I think back I am certain the rust process was there well before I bought it.
And to back up my claims a month ago I went the Von Bibra LDV dealer and inspected current brand new vans and utes I found rust already forming in the same locations at my van.
